HMTV Canada: 1. Hi Craven how is your summer going so far?
Craven: Mariano/lead guitar: Hi we are fine thank you; we’re in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Right now its winter and for the first time in my life it snowed! That was so great!
Gonzalo/singer: Yeah, it was also the first time it snowed here in the last 60 years or so. As for the music, right now we’re busy with rehearsals, you know, to catch up after the recording sessions for our new demo.
HMTV Canada: 2. I noticed from your website http://www.craven.com.ar/ Craven is starting out formed by Mariano Alioto, I thought wow for a new band starting out in 2007 its amazing how much Craven has accomplished with your Demo CD. Can you tell us about Mariano Alioto background in music?
Craven: Mariano: Well, its a band effort more than one person, I started to play in a band called Vampira like 15 years ago, we did some shows here and there, but we had to change singers alot so I decided to let it go, and start another project, Craven. Before Vampira it was Krull a beginner band where we played all the shit that you can think of... and very bad hahaha, after Vampira I didn’t play anymore but always stayed involved in music, then I started Craven and now I think things are coming along pretty well, much more than we thought.
HMTV Canada: 3. How did you meet each other and how long have you known each other?
Craven: Mariano: I meet the bass player Buho “Owl”, because a drummer brought him to rehearsal to start trying the songs and he stayed in the band, and Gonzalo (singer) we put an add looking for one and the came knocking our door, we’re glad he did.
HMTV Canada: 4. When did you form your band and what is it about metal that inspires you?
Craven: Mariano: Officially when we finished our demo 07 we take it from there; I think it’s a hobbie. A place where you can express yourself in the most violent and creative music art... Metal... Gonzalo: I just can’t stand the idea of not being involved with music in any kind of way, specially the kind of music that we make. It was something that I needed to do somehow, luckily for me I came across the chance of singing with these guys.
HMTV Canada: 5. Which songs do you perform frequently?
Craven: Mariano: We play Shotgun, You have nothing, River of Shadows, and five more songs that we’re about to get on record, plus some Pantera cover in honor to Dime.
HMTV Canada: 6. Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organizations?
Craven: Mariano: Nope nothing so far, we’re in discussions with a few people and basically, just looking at our options right now. We are a young band and want to make sure we get the “the right fit”, you know?
HMTV Canada: 7. I noticed your tracks very hardcore metal i.e., Shotgun, River of Shadows and you have nothing are awesome tracks. Can you tell us who writes your songs?
Craven: Mariano: Thank you, well I do the main riffs then we put all the pieces together everyone does their part in the band; it’s a very good chemistry that we have so far. The Shotgun lyrics talk about a local killer who killed the entire family cuz they used to call him "little pussy", River of shadows is a song about a girl who’s living in the edge
Gonzalo: I think we all have a dark, wicked side. Some people have it very deep within themselves; some other people let it out once in a while. The lyrics deal mostly with that side and with every negative or positive thing it could bring.
HMTV Canada: 8. Where have you performed, what are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
Craven: Mariano: We have some plans to perform out of the city by the end of September maybe, if we don’t play here in Buenos Aires before that.
HMTV Canada: 9. What was your biggest challenge as a band, how did you overcome this challenge?
Craven: Mariano: Our biggest challenge. It’s to be out touring around the globe... And we hope to accomplish that challenge desire; ultimately our goal is to be the first Argentinean band to get success out of the country... with this kind of metal.
Gonzalo: The biggest challenge is yet to come, but we have what it takes
HMTV Canada: 10. What is the ultimate direction for your band what do you hope to accomplish in the future?
Craven: Mariano: First a record contract out of the country, Argentina is not our goal. Our metal scene here is all fucked up, like if you have a band and you stay here, it’s more a hobbie than a real band, so ultimately, we are want to get out of here and let the entire world see us live.
HMTV Canada: 11. What are your influences and how are your fans reacting to your music?
Craven: Mariano: Influences so many, I have always been a big fan of Pantera, then we can say The Haunted, Slayer, Entombed, old Metallica, and from the new bands I can say Lamb of God, Devildriver, etc...
Gonzalo: In fact, we’re all pantera freaks,
HMTV Canada: 12. How do you like our music site at Hollywood Music TV?
Craven: Mariano: Its an awesome tool for bands, and we appreciate it so much, we need help in this over saturated industry and you’re great at helping bands, I know it for first hand. So a big THANKS to YOU.
G: And a big bear hug
HMTV Canada: 13. What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands today? What’s the music scene like in Argentina?
Craven: Mariano: Arg. metal scene is very into "old school" metal but Craven has been getting alot of attention here, with our type of music, you can see a shift in the way people are seeing metal; we are pleased with the response we have been getting.
Gonzalo: Particularly in Buenos Aires is really difficult getting noticed, especially if you’re into metal. Partially because of the lack of places to play at. In 2004 a well known discotheque’s caught on fire during a gig, killing nearly 200 kids. That particular place was like a fucking death trap: no emergency exits, no security features at all. So, in an attempt to calm people down, the government closed a lot of places were underground bands used to play. We have fewer places to play in, but we’re going for everything and play in any place we can.
HMTV Canada: 14. Is there anyone you will like to acknowledge? Any last words?
Craven: Mariano: Yes my beautiful and amazing fiancé for all the support and love and to the fans...wait for us... CRAVEN IS COMING!!!!!!!!
. Gonzalo: all those friends and partners from other bands that give us their constant support and keep on asking when the hell are we going to play. Oh, and every one checking us out at our website and space.
